To pass the final test for the building surveyor we needed to build some steps. (The fancy word for this is access and egress) This is to make sure the house has safe access. We made the laundry to the back yard access set of stairs using a lasercut corten frame and spotted gum timber treads. The frames were welded together in parts and then fixed with masonry anchors into a concrete slab. The design was first made on computer to make sure it would look good before we ordered any materials. The 2nd set of steps was made using recycled pallets and an old jarrah deck. We built everything in place and modified the pallets to fit the area.

The beer tap is working well and the kitchen is fully functional, there are a few extra pictures to show the current progress. We restored the dining table after finding it on the side of the road.

The idea is to put a shipping container company logo on every door in the house. For example there will be a “MAERSK” bedroom and a “CHINA SHIPPING” bedroom etc. All the vinyl stickers were made using a vinyl cutter. You can see how they turned out in the pictures. Once the doors are painted we will take some photos and show how the viny stickers turned out.

We installed speakers to the upstairs and downstairs lounge rooms because we all enjoy good music. The speaker wires were added before plaster and considered ahead of time. The covers were cream and didn’t match the white ceiling paint, so we painted them satin white to match. Each of the speakers are terminated directly to the speaker wire. The amplifier end was terminated to a banana plug. They banana plug looks a bit nicer than wires hanging out of the wall.
